Yep, Babe is gone. Of course, now that I am truckless once again, I'm looking into buyng back my old project truck.   It's an addiction, and it's not pretty.

Yes, I am nuts. Those who follow my exploits on my main VW site will recall that last Summer I decided to unload all my old VWs and get a brand new Golf TDI. While I did manage to find homes for my project pickup, '84 convertible and '83 GTI (although the last still sits in my garage), when I started looking seriously at what my monthly payments would be for insurance and the loan on my new dream car, I abaondoned that plan. I hne came across this gem of a truck, and promply bought it.

Well, as the weather turned cold and I retired the '87 Cabriol et for the Wint, I discovered that while the bunnytruck ROCKS for commuting to work and short trips, being limited to 70mph on road-trips seriously cramps my style. It's also not exactly a babe magnet - though I did have a hottie in a Jetta pull in beside me in a parking lot to tell me it was the coolest thing she'd ever seen. I decided to look for something bigger, heavier, and more dee-loox than my current pile of Rabbits. I was thinking Scirocco 16v, Quantum Synchro Wagon, Passat, Audi Quattro, etc.

Well, I've found a TDI Golf, and I'm buying it this week.

So buy my super-clean, super-running southern truck, for only $2700. I've added a new starter, alternator, battery, and glow plugs. Also oil pressure, voltmeter, and oil temp gauges added to dash. New heavy-duty bedmat. Kenwood tape deck kicks out the tunes. 49k on the engine (better breathing later-style '85 1.6 liter, w/ 5qt oil pan), 81k on the chassis. Log book from original purchase in '81 to my fill-up last Sunday night. Factory sliding rear window. Lots of extras that might creep into the deal, or are available for an additional cost (Cabriolet front end, 14" alloys, 14" snow tires, bike rack, '86 GTI 5-speed tranny, Hella H4 headlights, Bentley manuals, etc.

I'm in Columbus, OH. Will deliver anywhere in Ohio. Truck could be driven home to anywhere in contiguous North or South America.

Oh yeah, right about now, you're thinking, "sounds sweet, but that COLOR! I couldn't live with baby blue!" I know, I was the same way. But the more I drive the thing, and the more I look at it, the more right the color looks on it. If I end up keeping it, I'll just do the cabby front end, get the dings popped,

and touch up the Lago Blue as needed.

If you like the lago blue, as I have grown to, you could spend a couple hundred bucks to have the dings popped and a little re-spray done on the front apron, the windshield cowl, and the top of the tailgate (cap door rub), and have an immaculate bunnytruck.

The only service the thing should require within the next year or three is a new valve cover gasket (which I will probably do, with a rubber Corrado unit I bought for the purpose, next week w/ the oil change), new suspension, and, to be safe, a new water pump and a new timing belt (don't know when the current one was installed). The Ebrakes don't work well at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I can tighten them up when I do the oil change.

Here's a quick review of my financial history with the thing...

Price:$2,700.

Paid $2500 in August, replaced alternator ($90), starter($170), battery ($80), glow plugs & relay ($80), driver's window slider($15), and refitted fixed vent windows in place of broken glue-ons ($20).

I also installed Cabriolet oil pressure, volts, and oil temp gauges ($60), Hella H4 headlights ($50), Kenwood tape deck ($50), Pioneer dash speakers ($25), super-thick bed mat ($70), winter-duty floor mats ($20).

Then I added the two $%#&ing dings to the windshield cowl- the only reason that I'm not looking for $3,000+.
