I bought the car as a Summer beater last year. It's got a good top, straight silver body, very little visible rust (some hiding under the fender flares), rip-free interior, new belts and Redline tranny fluid, etc.
I got it with a shredded brown interior and a rusty trunk lid, and managed to find a clean lid in the perfect color and a complete gray and black interior.
The car had tarantula alloys on it with mismatched tires, and a set of super-clean 7-spoke alloys off the '87 with nice tires on them.

This is the story of my '84 Rabbit convertable...
Just when everything was comming together on the GTI, somebody had to go and back into it!
It wasn't a big dent, but I got a decent chunk of insurance money. I could have paid off a credit card, or put the money back into fixing up the GTI - but what did I do? Yep, I bought aother money pit.
It came with a stylish shreaded brown interior...
...some bonus rust, and a had an ugly scar from a fender-bender.

So then it was time to get rid of that brown interior. We went to the junk yard, and picked up a few things.
Out with the old....
In with the new...
As with all cas, it never really looked its best until I was ready to sell it. I replaced the trim strip on the non-stock fender, and replaced the rusted ear hatch with a clean perfect match from the junkyard. Note the substitution of the flatter, non-sport front seats that came in the '87. I'm still seeking a perfect match for the lone seat shown above.
